The rubber cushion is most commonly used around the weight stack guide rod under the weight stack and at the top of the weight stack. This prevents the weight stack from slamming against the frame on the upward and downward motion. The rubber cushion may also be found in places where a moving portion of a unit (such as an arm, leg, etc.) rests against the frame to prevent damage to the unit.
